Biography

Christopher Penaherrera joined the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in 2015. He is a Senior Compliance Officer in OFAC's Compliance Division, where he regularly advises and educates on a variety of matters relating to both domestic and foreign financial institution compliance with U.S. economic sanctions programs. Previously, Mr. Penaherrera served as the OFAC Attaché in its Regional Office in Mexico City, Mexico where his focus was targeting foreign narcotics traffickers and transnational criminal organizations, in Mexico and Central America for OFAC designation.  Prior to joining OFAC, Chris worked as a Senior Global Liaison in the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), and served as FinCEN’s representative in Kabul, Afghanistan and later as the FinCEN Attaché in Mexico City, Mexico.  Mr. Penaherrera is a United States Marine Corps veteran and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.
