Programmatic Overlaps Between University Export Controls and Research Security with Northeastern University

Please join us for another FREE Lunch & Learn Session on the overlaps between University Export Control and Research Security Programs, brought to us by speakers from Northeastern University. This session will bring pertinent case studies and examples from Northeastern on how their separate Export Compliance and Research Security Programs collaborate to create effective international compliance operations at their institution. You do not need to register for this event and will only need to use the Teams Link emailed to members via the AUECO listserv. 

This presentation will focus on the following topics:

  • What are some of the research security and export control concerns that universities are facing in the current academic landscape?
  • Where do export controls overlap with research security?
  • How can these two areas work together? How does it work at NU?
  • How can universities leverate export control resources when tehre is no dedicated person for research security?

Lissette Gilster

Export Control Officer

Northeastern University

Bio: Lissette has been with Northeastern since 2021. She is responsible for developing and implementing the export compliance program. Lissette has a BA in marketing & international business and has 13 years of experience in the export compliance field. The last 10 years have been in export compliance for higher education.

Tessa Seales

Research Security & Forensic Analyst

Northeastern University

Bio: Tessa has a master's in criminilogy from the University of Pennsylvania and comes from a law enforcement background. Tessa has been with Northeastern since December 2021 and works in the areas of Research Security, Export Controls, and Research Integrity & Misconduct.
