AUECO Lunch & Learn Roundtable: International Shipping

In this roundtable session, speakers will present and discuss their experiences with managing international shipping at their various research institutions. The discussion will primarily focus on processes, procedures, and methods that can be used in tackling international shipping at your institution. Speakers will not only touch on the pros and cons of centralized shipping solutions they have experience with, but will also provide insights into the collaborations they developed amongst pertinent institutional stakeholders to manage decentralized international shipping processes.

Speakers:

Brian Collins
Export Control Manager
Princeton University
Brian has been the Export Control Manager for over 4 years. He is a licensed customs broker and has over 15 years of experience in international trade across a wide variety of industries.

Sarah Schlagter
Associate Vice President for Policy and Regulatory Affairs
Research Foundation of SUNY
Bio: Sarah has been working in higher education since 2015 and her roles have all focused on regulatory compliance, including export controls. Sarah is an attorney admitted to the NY Bar. Prior to her career in higher education, Sarah practiced law in the public and private sector, and also worked for a large defense contractor where she was assigned to their international contracts division.

Jen McCaw

Bio: Jen has 20 years of experience in export compliance in both university and industry settings, with a focus on research security and trade compliance. Previously she was the Export Compliance Officer at Oregon Health & Science University and an active member of the Association for University Export Control Officers (AUECO), where she often served as a subject matter expert on international shipping and trade compliance.

Quinton Johnson
Associate Vice Chancellor for Research
UNC Chapel Hill
Bio: Quinton strives to facilitate international collaboration, support clinical research programs,  and foster an ethical culture by lowering the barrier to access compliance resources. Quinton has previously served at Virginia Commonwealth University as the Export Control Officer and at Chapel Hill as its Chief Compliance Officer and Export Control Officer.

Dan Vick
Director, Office of Export Controls
Duke University
Bio: Daniel Vick has spent the past 20 years in the international trade field with 12 of those focused on export controls in Academia.
