About this session

Operationalizing export controls at an academic institution can quickly become unwieldy. For an academic medical center performing fundamental research, an institutional shift from a de-centralized workflow model to a centralized one created an opportunity for the refinement and automation of existing processes. This is not a talk about how to determine your risk thresholds or the components of an export control program; rather, we will focus on how to manage export control operations by decreasing administrative burden and streamlining processes for accuracy and efficiency. This talk will focus on the use of automations, process maps, SOPs, survey tools, and metrics in designing methodologies to meet export control requirements relating to international travel, academic exchanges, and other areas in the export control arena. We will also present outcomes and lessons learned over this two-year case study.

Jointly hosted by NC State University and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
