About this session

By any metric, U.S. export control regulations are complicated, detailed, and subject to frequent change. Now, introduce another layer of complexity when one encounters the export control regulations of over 40 countries and a number of multilateral control regimes that U.S. companies may encounter when they manufacture licensable technologies abroad or re-export licensable technology from one country to another. Moreover, the transmission of licensable software and technology between countries that provides access to foreign nationals (Deemed Export) add yet another dimension to the equation.

Join Ms. Mickey Stevenson, Assistant Vice President, Office of Research Integrity and Mr. Duaine Priestley, Export Control Analyst, Rice University, as they examine existing multilateral export control regimes, tri-partite export control agreements that focus on defense related technology, and others designed to keep foreign adversaries from acquiring advanced technology. They will examine the evolution of EU export controls and individual member states export regulations. In addition, they will provide an overview of existing multilateral export regimes such as the Wassenaar Agreement and the potential direction of future export regulations. Lastly, Ms. Stevenson and Mr. Priestley will address the evolution of Critical and Emerging Technologies (CET) and implications for global commerce.

Jointly hosted by NC State University and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
